Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari, who was elected in 2024 after defeating Jeff Zink with 70.9% of the vote, used her Twitter account on January 22, 2026, to sharply criticize U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and announce forthcoming legislative action.

In a post at 16:09 UTC, Ansari wrote, “ICE can and will always go lower. It’s absolutely disgusting that they used a 5-year-old child as bait so that they could arrest his father.

Murdering U.S. citizens and kidnapping children in front of our eyes is pure evil.”

Later the same day at 19:38 UTC, she continued her criticism by stating, “Trump’s ICE is a disgrace to the United States, with slush funds, rampant abuse, and zero accountability.

I’ll be introducing legislation to rein it in, end inhumane detention, and expose the real costs of mass deportation. These bills deserve an immediate vote in Congress.”

At 21:53 UTC on January 22, Ansari made her position clear regarding federal funding for immigration enforcement agencies: “I’m obviously a hell no on funding for @DHSgov and @ICEgov.”

Ansari’s comments come amid ongoing national debates about immigration enforcement practices and funding for federal agencies such as ICE and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Her public stance follows her significant electoral victory over Jeff Zink in the 2024 general election, where she secured nearly three-quarters of the vote.
