The University of Phoenix announced on Mar. 17 that it will host a Bridging Perspectives webinar titled “How AI Can Reduce or Reinforce Cognitive Overload at Work” on March 19 at 11 a.m. MST. The virtual event aims to explore how artificial intelligence affects employee productivity, decision-making, and focus, while offering practical guidance for leaders seeking to implement AI in ways that support well-being and sustainable performance.

The topic is significant as organizations increasingly integrate AI into daily workflows, raising questions about whether these tools ease or intensify mental demands on employees. The session will address both the opportunities and challenges presented by AI in modern workplaces.

Veena Nayak, vice president of Data Strategy and Solutions at University of Phoenix and a featured speaker for the event, said, “AI presents a significant opportunity to redesign work in ways that help people focus on what matters most. But technology alone doesn’t determine outcomes. Organizations must be intentional about how AI tools are introduced and governed so they reduce friction, support thoughtful decision-making and strengthen the human experience of work.”

A recent white paper from the University’s College of Doctoral Studies found that while technology such as AI can boost productivity by automating routine tasks, its effectiveness depends on how much control employees retain over their work pace and decisions. Poorly implemented systems may lead to constant alerts, fragmented workflows, and new pressures related to rapidly evolving technology.

The webinar will feature speakers including Mansureh Kebritchi, Ph.D., Brian McComak, MSM, Veena Nayak, and Janet Nix, Ed.D., who will discuss when AI reduces cognitive overload versus when it amplifies it. Topics include how leaders can implement AI to protect attention, autonomy, and trust within organizations.

The Bridging Perspectives series is organized by the Office of Collaborative Learning and Educational Engagement at University of Phoenix. It brings together academic leaders and industry experts to examine trends such as digital transformation and employee experience.
