University of Phoenix is set to host the next session in its Bridging Perspectives webinar series, titled “Balancing Career, Caregiving & Identity in Today’s Workforce.” The event will take place on Thursday, September 18 at noon MDT. Organized by the Office of Collaborative Learning and Educational Engagement, the series targets higher education leaders, employers, nonprofit organizations, as well as University faculty, staff, students, and alumni.
“Caregiving is a deeply human experience that can impact career choices and trajectories,” said Tondra Richardson, MBA, Director of Engagement Strategy & Program Development at University of Phoenix. “This conversation is about acknowledging the real challenges people face and exploring how we can build more compassionate, sustainable systems of support for workers juggling family and professional responsibilities.”
The upcoming webinar will feature a panel discussion with Dr. Macie P. Smith, a licensed social worker and gerontologist; Neal Shah, CEO of CareYaya and Chairman of Counterforce Health; and bestselling author in health policy. Heather Steiness, Ph.D., M.P.H., Associate Dean of Graduate Programs in the College of Health Professions at University of Phoenix will serve as moderator.
Earlier this year, findings from a report by University of Phoenix Career Institute and Motherly highlighted that 51% of mothers belonging to the sandwich generation—those caring for both children and aging parents—have left a job due to caregiving duties. The study also noted that most dual-caregivers lack adequate financial support; 55% reported living in single-income households.
The Bridging Perspectives webinar series seeks to promote cultural awareness on current issues while encouraging thought leadership and community partnerships.
