University of Phoenix alumna Erica McCray receives national Milken Educator Award

Erica McCray, an alumna of the University of Phoenix with a Master of Education, has been named a recipient of the 2026 Milken Educator Award. This national recognition comes with a $25,000 cash prize and membership in the Milken Educator Network, which includes over 3,000 professionals from various educational backgrounds.

McCray currently serves as principal at Riverwalk Academy in Rock Hill, South Carolina. She is recognized for her instructional excellence, strong engagement with the community, and leadership potential. As part of her role, she hosts parent nights and maintains regular communication with families to ensure that the school’s achievements are acknowledged within the local community.

“I have always believed real change begins with education,” McCray said. “Being recognized for work I love is truly humbling because it is about showing up for students and helping them see what is possible. My time at University of Phoenix strengthened my commitment to lead with purpose and serve with heart. Wherever my journey takes me, that dedication to making a lasting impact will always guide me.”

The Milken Educator Awards will honor 30 recipients nationwide during its 2025–26 cycle. Recipients receive an unrestricted financial award and join a network focused on advancing leadership and innovation in education.
