Paradise Valley Unified School District announced on May 12 that twenty-two high school students have been named as National Merit Finalists for the class of 2026. The district also reported that two of these students are already scholarship winners, with more awards expected to be announced later in the summer.

The recognition as a National Merit Finalist is a significant achievement, reflecting the students’ high academic standards and fulfillment of all requirements set by the competition. The district said, “This is a significant accomplishment, and we couldn’t be more proud of them!”

To reach finalist standing, semifinalists must meet rigorous academic criteria and complete all necessary steps outlined by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Paradise Valley Unified School District congratulated its seniors from Horizon High School, Paradise Valley High School, Pinnacle High School, and Shadow Mountain High School who achieved this honor. Among them are Anna Parker and Taryn Falvey from Horizon High School who have already been awarded scholarships.

Paradise Valley Unified School District promotes anti-racism, equity, and inclusion in its policies and practices; focuses on engaging and inspiring students through quality instruction; operates under the guidance of a board of school trustees; serves the Paradise Valley area in Arizona; offers community learning centers and magnet programs to enhance educational opportunities; and specializes in public schooling—all according to the official website.

National Merit will announce additional scholarship winners this summer. The district extended best wishes to all candidates as they await further results.
