Trey McBride has been named first-team All-Pro after catching 126 passes this season, setting a new NFL record for receptions by a tight end in a single season. The Associated Press voters selected McBride as an almost-unanimous pick, with 49 of 50 first-place votes. San Francisco’s George Kittle received the other first-place vote, despite missing several games due to injury.

McBride is the first tight end from the Arizona Cardinals to earn first-team All-Pro honors. Other Cardinals who received All-Pro votes include safety Budda Baker, punter Matt Haack, and Calais Campbell, who got a first-place vote for special teams.

Budda Baker was named second-team All-Pro last year and previously earned first-team honors in 2020. Before McBride’s recognition this year, the last time an offensive player from the Cardinals made the All-Pro team was running back David Johnson in 2016.

McBride’s performance this season included 1,239 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. He became the first tight end in NFL history with at least 100 catches in consecutive seasons and set both franchise and league records for receptions by a tight end. His streak of at least five catches in 16 games also established another NFL record.

“Individually it was a great year, one of my best years I’ve had, so I’m excited about that,” McBride said. “How I’ll celebrate, the Pro Bowl is one way, so I’m excited about that.”

He broke Zach Ertz’s previous receptions record during the team’s sixteenth game of the season without needing an extra game added to recent schedules.

“The catches (record) is pretty cool,” McBride said. “That one will hopefully stick for a little while.”

The gloves and football used by McBride when he broke the receptions record are now on display at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

The Arizona Cardinals represent Phoenix and play their home games in Glendale as part of the NFC West division of the NFL (official website). The franchise originated in Chicago in 1898 and stands as the oldest continuously run professional football team in America (official website). The team has won NFL championships in both 1925 and 1947 and captured an NFC championship in 2008 (official website).
