The City of Phoenix will complete the final steps of a plan to meet a court-ordered deadline to address the area around the Human Services Campus after a Superior Court judge imposed a November 4 deadline to complete “the removal of all tents and other makeshift structures." The City will expedite its existing process and open additional shelter options to comply with the court's order. The City intends to comply with all court directives.
For several months, the City has been working systematically in the area around the HSC to make significant progress to address community concerns. Since May 2023, the City has addressed 11 blocks around the campus, offering services to individuals experiencing homelessness while cleaning up and closing the blocks to camping.
The City is addressing the 12th block today. There are three blocks remaining. The final three enhanced engagements will take place prior to the November 4 deadline.
On Monday, in partnership with A New Leaf, the City opened a new 100-room hotel shelter that will be occupied in phases. In the coming weeks, the City plans to open an additional temporary 60-room hotel shelter and begin the phased opening of the Safe Outdoor Space.
The City remains committed to serving every member of our community, including neighborhoods, individuals experiencing homelessness, property owners, and businesses.
