The Phoenix City Council will vote Sept. 26 to repeal its unlawful ordinance providing for the transfer of guns to Ukraine following an investigation by the state attorney general.
The city council in June unanimously approved the ordinance to transfer 500 to 600 firearms to private Company DTGruelle, which would then provide the firearms to the National Police of Ukraine. Based in Moon Township, Penn., DTGruelle is a logistics provider and U.S. Customers broker.
Attorney General Kris Mayes (D-Ariz.)'s report this week found that the ordinance violates state law.
In July, Republican Ariz. State Reps Quang Nguyen and Selina Bliss has filed a complaint over the ordinance, asking the attorney general to investigate.
Quang and Bliss this week commended Mayes’ findings, but said it was “shameful” that Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego (D) had “willfully disregarded state law and rushed the transfer” of the guns to Ukraine following the legislators’ challenge to the ordinance.
Mayes said the city of Phoenix has 30 days to repeal the ordinance, and that repeal is on the city council’s agenda for the Sept. 26 meeting.
