Phoenix kids are heat ready this summer! The Office of Heat Response and Mitigation and Phoenix Public Library teamed up to host a “Stay Cool Summer" art contest. Contestants were tasked with designing a bookmark representing what a “Stay Cool Summer" looks like to them while promoting heat safety messaging.

After reviewing all the art submissions, three winners were selected by a panel of judges including Mayor Kate Gallego, Office of Heat Response and Mitigation Director Dr. David Hondula and City Librarian Rita Hamilton.

Nina Patel, age 14, Sophia Crespo, age 10, and Elise Ramos, age 11, were this year's art contest winners and were celebrated at Burton Barr Central Library during an award event. Each art piece focused on various elements of heat safety messaging including hydration, the importance of sunscreen, and water safety.

Winners received swag from the Office of Heat Response and Mitigation including an activity book, a reusable water bottle, and a pencil for future art projects. In addition, the designs were turned into official bookmarks, which are available at all 17 Phoenix Public Library locations and posters that will be displayed in Phoenix City Hall for a week.
