The City of Phoenix has distributed more than one million pieces of personal protective equipment to Phoenix schools as they prepare to reopen for face-to-face instruction.
Cloth masks with clear windows have been distributed to teachers of students with hearing impairments or other disabilities, those learning English as a second language or those learning to read. Regular cloth masks were also handed out.
"As Phoenix school districts begin to transition to in-class instruction, the city understands the importance each school is placing on the health and safety of their students, staff and educators," a city press release stated. "School districts will be receiving supplies to distribute to schools."
Other supplies that were distributed include hand sanitizer and isolation gowns.
For conducting in-person classes, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend cloth face coverings for all teachers, staff and students, maintaining social distancing when possible, frequent hand-washing and disinfecting commonly touched surfaces.
