Cost of college went down for all students at South Mountain Community College

In-state tuition and fees fell 1.1 percent for 2018-19 at South Mountain Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Arizona residents paid $2,070 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $24 less than the $2,094 charged for 2017-18.

Non-resident students would have paid 279.4 percent more than residents this year, or $7,854. Non-resident tuition and fees were reduced 0.3 percent from $7,878 in 2017-18.

About 98 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Arizona residents.

Data shows 90 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 380 students received grants or scholarships totaling $1.8 million and 56 students took out student loans totaling more than $186,354.

Including all undergraduates (4,075), 2,499 students used grants or scholarships totaling $8.1 million, and 533 students took out $2.1 million in federal student loans.
