The Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation marked its Sprouting Healthy Communities Day by distributing $3.3 million in donations to more than 550 local nonprofit organizations and schools. The event took place across all 450 Sprouts locations, where live in-store check presentations were held.

Dustin Hamilton, chief stores officer of Sprouts Farmers Market, said, “At Sprouts, caring for our community is one of our core values, and with the Sprouting Healthy Communities Day we saw that value in action. This in-store event created a powerful moment of connection across the country as our team members came together with local partners to support children, families, and healthier communities.”

The grants provided ranged from $5,000 to $10,000 and are intended to support programs that improve access to nutrition education, school gardens, cooking classes, and wellness opportunities for children and families. These initiatives are projected to reach about one million children and adults within the year.

These donations are part of the foundation’s broader grants program announced earlier this year. Funding comes partly from customer contributions at checkout through a round-up initiative supporting local children’s nutrition education efforts.

Lyndsey Waugh, executive director of the Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation, stated, “Our customers are right by our side helping to make these programs possible, and some of them even nominated the nonprofits that we supported in these grants.”

The foundation emphasizes youth gardening and cooking programs aimed at instilling healthy habits early on.
