Senator Mark Finchem, a Republican representing Arizona’s 1st Senate District since 2025, posted a series of statements on social media regarding the shooting of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University.

On September 10, 2025, Finchem wrote: “I just heard about the shooting of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. Please join me in praying for him and his family and that the deranged individual who did this is brought to justice swiftly. #Prayerworks!”

The following day, on September 11, he addressed media coverage of the incident with another post: “Get it right NYT! Charlie Kirk was not merely the victim of a fatal shooting. He was assassinated because he was exercising the same 1st Amendment right that you hold so dear to promote your propaganda, your Orwellian #newsspeak radical leftist word salad. Show a little respect,”

Later on September 11, Finchem shared a third post containing only a link: “https://t.co/pVSqxTBug7”

Finchem assumed office in Arizona’s State Senate after being elected in 2025, succeeding Ken Bennett as representative for the state’s 1st Senate District.
