Republic Services has announced that Antonio (Tony) Carranza has been named the 2025 National Residential Driver of the Year by the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA). Carranza, who is based in Chula Vista, California, was recognized for his dedication to safety and exceptional customer service. The award was presented at the NWRA Awards Breakfast during the 2025 Waste Expo convention in Las Vegas.

Carranza has worked with Republic Services for over 42 years. Following the awards breakfast, Gregg Brummer, Chief Operating Officer of Republic Services, presented him with a new collection truck personalized with his name to honor his achievement.

“Safety is the foundation of everything we do at Republic Services, and Tony exemplifies this commitment every day,” said Jon Vander Ark Vander Ark, President and CEO. “Tony is one of the industry’s best, and we celebrate his dedication to serving our customers with excellence and care.”

Rick Rojas, general manager of Republic Services in Chula Vista, praised Carranza’s dedication: “I’ve known Tony for many years, and his dedication to his fellow employees and consistent positive attitude are a true testament to his character and work ethic.” Rojas noted that community members often call with compliments on Carranza’s service.

Carranza is also known for building strong connections within the community he serves. He frequently surprises children along his route with gifts from Republic Services like coloring books and totes.

The NWRA Driver of the Year awards recognize drivers who operate safely and responsibly while maintaining outstanding performance records. The selection process involves a comprehensive scoring system evaluated by independent judges based on letters of recommendation, safety performance, and route or equipment operation difficulty.

Since 2006, Republic Services drivers have consistently received top recognition in various categories within NWRA’s awards program, highlighting their commitment to safety.
