Pamela Carter, House Representative of Arizona, announced her resolution celebrating the Palo Verde plant and supporting national efforts to restore nuclear energy leadership. The statement was made on X.

“Nuclear Energy is back,” said Carter, State Representative from Arizona. “My HCR2022 recognizing one of the largest nuclear plants in America, Palo Verde, right here in Arizona is ahead of its time! Thank you, President Trump for paving the way for nuclear energy in America as one of the most reliable sources of clean energy production.”

Arizona is actively supporting nuclear energy development through both legislative and regulatory channels as part of broader clean energy goals. According to the Arizona Corporation Commission, a 2025 workshop focused on advancing nuclear power generation highlighted interest in small modular reactors (SMRs). As reported by the American Public Power Association, the Arizona House has also advanced a bill to streamline SMR permitting when paired with data centers, signaling bipartisan support for expanding nuclear infrastructure.

The Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, located near Tonopah, Arizona, remains the largest power producer in the U.S., generating over 32 million megawatt-hours annually. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, in 2023 it accounted for 27% of Arizona’s total electricity generation and about 4% of national nuclear output. Its contribution helps meet the region’s demand for carbon-free baseload power.

Nuclear energy has consistently supplied nearly one-fifth of U.S. electricity, serving as a major contributor to the nation’s clean energy mix. As reported by the National Conference of State Legislatures, nuclear power accounted for 19% of total U.S. electricity generation in 2023, despite representing only 8% of installed capacity. This efficiency underscores its continued relevance in the clean energy transition.

Carter is a Republican state representative serving Arizona’s 4th District since January 2025, with committee roles in public safety, energy, and infrastructure. According to the Arizona Legislature’s official site, she serves on the Natural Resources, Energy & Water Committee, where she introduced a resolution backing nuclear power. As reported by ABC15, Carter has positioned nuclear energy as a strategic priority for Arizona’s economic and environmental future.

The Arizona House of Representatives, established in 1912, is composed of 60 members elected from 30 legislative districts and serves as the state’s lower legislative chamber. According to the Arizona Legislature’s website, it oversees policy development through standing committees like the Natural Resources, Energy & Water Committee, which handles legislation related to energy infrastructure and environmental issues.
