PVSchools is working to address ongoing transportation challenges that have resulted in late morning arrivals and delayed afternoon drop-offs for district buses. These delays have affected both schools and families, leading to issues such as lost instructional time, increased supervision demands on campuses, and disruptions to family schedules. Elementary schools have been particularly impacted due to stricter supervision requirements and more structured instructional periods.

To find solutions, PVSchools has collaborated with a transportation consultant, a committee of district stakeholders, and focus groups including staff, administrators, and parents. Together they analyzed the current transportation system and school bell times. The group developed a proposal aimed at improving bus reliability across the district.

The main recommendation from this process is to adjust school start and end times. According to PVSchools, “Bell time alignment is the lever that allows the district to make the best use of limited transportation resources while improving reliability for students, families, and schools without requiring additional staffing, increased costs, or reduced services.” The district emphasizes that reliable transportation supports instructional time, student safety, family trust, and staff sustainability.

On January 15, 2026, the committee’s proposal was presented to the Governing Board for discussion. Before any final decision is made—expected on February 12—PVSchools is seeking input from parents and guardians.

Parents are invited to participate in a feedback survey regarding a possible recommendation to increase the elementary school day by 10 minutes. This change would align elementary schedules with those of middle and high schools. While only elementary school day length would be extended under this proposal, all schools could see changes in their start and end times if it moves forward.

The survey was sent via email on January 16 and will remain open until February 6.
