The Phoenix Symphony has announced the public launch of a $60 million fundraising campaign titled Crescendo: The Campaign for The Phoenix Symphony. This initiative aims to secure a stable future for symphonic music in Arizona as the Symphony nears its 80th season. The campaign focuses on artistic excellence, community engagement, and sustainability.

Peter Kjome, president and CEO of The Phoenix Symphony, expressed optimism about the campaign, stating, “Crescendo embodies our shared vision for the Phoenix Symphony as we move together toward a bright future for our great orchestra, enriching our community today and for generations to come.” He also noted that over $10 million has already been pledged, attributing this momentum to the generosity of contributors like Jeanne Herberger.

Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego emphasized the community’s cultural ties to the Symphony, saying, “The Phoenix Symphony has been a vital part of our city for nearly 80 years as a cornerstone of our community’s cultural and civic identity.” She highlighted the campaign’s potential to invest in Phoenix’s spirit and future.

The Crescendo campaign allocates $40 million to enhance the Symphony’s endowment, while the remaining $20 million will support programming, education, and community engagement. Sharon and Ollie Harper, alongside Kathleen and John Graham, serve as Honorary Co-Chairs, with Michele and Matt Feeney and Edie and Eric Bieber as Campaign Chairs.

The campaign’s public launch was celebrated on April 29 at Symphony Hall, with early contributors recognized and speeches delivered by Mayor Gallego and other guests. It was announced that the Symphony’s “Classics Series” would be renamed the “Jeanne L. Herberger Classical Series” following Herberger’s $4 million donation.

Matt Feeney, Campaign Co-Chair, commented, “Crescendo is about ensuring that future generations continue to experience the beauty, creativity and inspiration that orchestral music brings to our lives.” Another Campaign Co-Chair, Eric Bieber, noted, “Through Crescendo, we have the opportunity to sustain the Symphony’s artistic excellence, expand its reach and ensure that its transformative power continues to enrich lives across the Valley for generations.”

Further details about the campaign can be found at the Symphony’s website.
