Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport announced on Mar. 30 that it is preparing for a surge in travelers as the 2026 NCAA Women’s Final Four approaches, with events scheduled for April 3 and April 5. The airport released travel tips to help passengers navigate expected high traffic before and after the games.

The upcoming basketball tournament is anticipated to draw large crowds from across the country and internationally, making it important for travelers to plan ahead. Airport officials say rental cars should be reserved in advance due to limited availability during championship weekend. For those attending events downtown, PHX Sky Train connects all terminals with Valley Metro light rail stations, providing easy access to venues such as the Phoenix Convention Center and Hance Park.

Travelers are encouraged to use the 24th Street or 44th Street PHX Sky Train stations for passenger pick-up or drop-off, which offer free access to all terminals and can help avoid congestion at terminal curbsides. Volunteer Navigators will be present throughout airport terminals wearing purple uniforms, while NCAA volunteers will assist with questions about local events.

Departing passengers are advised to check flight status before arriving at the airport and allow at least two hours before departure. Security wait times can be monitored online or via information screens in terminals. The airport recommends packing smart by reviewing TSA guidelines beforehand and placing official game programs in carry-on bags. Early Bag Check services are available at both the Rental Car Center and East Economy Parking areas.

The Compassion Corner in Terminal 4 offers an all-faiths chapel, a sensory room for quiet space needs, and accessibility assistance; travelers needing extra support can schedule guidance from Navigator staff throughout their journey.

In related developments, Breeze Airways began service from Phoenix Sky Harbor’s Terminal 3 with flights twice weekly to Charleston, South Carolina, and Provo, Utah according to an August announcement. Additionally, Roxann Favors was named Assistant Director/Chief Revenue Officer of the City of Phoenix Aviation Department as reported by city officials, while Jay DeWitt was appointed Assistant Director/Chief Development Officer overseeing several key divisions according to a city release.

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport reports an annual economic impact exceeding $44 billion with daily averages of approximately 1,000 aircraft operations and more than 130,000 passengers.
