Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport has introduced a new parking guidance system in its Terminal 3 Garage to help drivers find available spaces more efficiently during the busy holiday season.
The camera-based system uses sensors to monitor each parking space in real time, providing data on garage occupancy and visual indicators for drivers. Red and green lights throughout the garage show where spaces are available, which is expected to reduce the time spent searching for parking and lower stress before flights. The system also helps drivers locate their vehicles upon return and supports the airport’s sustainability goals by reducing driving and idling times.
Phoenix Sky Harbor is collaborating with ACE Parking on the “Portier VISION” system. The pilot program is currently operating in the Terminal 3 Garage, which contains over 2,000 parking spots. There are plans to expand the technology to the larger Terminal 4 garage.
All travelers using Phoenix Sky Harbor during peak periods are encouraged to reserve a parking spot in advance through skyharbor.com/parking.
Terminal 3 at Phoenix Sky Harbor has seen recent developments, including new airline services such as Breeze Airways’ twice-weekly flights from Phoenix to Charleston, South Carolina, and Provo, Utah. These services began on November 2, 2022 and operate from Terminal 3 (https://www.phoenix.gov/newsroom/aviation/2437).
Additionally, leadership changes have occurred within the City of Phoenix Aviation Department. Roxann Favors was named Assistant Director/Chief Revenue Officer in August 2022 (https://www.phoenix.gov/newsroom/aviation/2447), while Jay DeWitt was appointed Assistant Director/Chief Development Officer around the same time (https://www.phoenix.gov/newsroom/aviation/2448).
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport reports an annual economic impact exceeding $44 billion. On average, about 1,000 aircraft and more than 130,000 passengers arrive at or depart from PHX daily. The airport operates solely on its own revenue without tax dollar support.
