Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport has highlighted recent activities and historical moments through a series of social media posts. The airport shared updates about live music performances, art projects, and a look back at the launch preparations of America West Airlines.
On August 20, 2025, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport announced a musical event at Terminal 4: “Musician Paul Howalt performs for Traveling Tunes at Phoenix Sky Harbor for the first time! Listen to this local artist tomorrow from 9-11 a.m. in Terminal 4.”
Later that same day, the airport shared details about an art initiative: “¡Sombra! Experiments in Shade, an art project by @phxartsculture, inspired all the fun at our recent Culture Corner event! Thanks to @HeatReadyPHX for providing heat safety resources to travelers. View more info on upcoming Culture Corner activities at https://t.co/BVDuMkms3H” This tweet acknowledged both the creative efforts by local arts organizations and the provision of heat safety information for travelers.
On August 21, 2025, the airport revisited its history with a throwback post: “Today’s #TBT takes us back to 1983 when America West Airlines was preparing to launch service. In the weeks leading up to their first flight, the airline parked at Boeing 737 at the gate to show employees and the community there were ready. #ThrowbackThursday”
Phoenix Sky Harbor has continued developing its offerings in recent years. In August 2022, Breeze Airways added new routes from Phoenix to Charleston and Provo, operating twice weekly out of Terminal 3 (source). Around that same period, Roxann Favors was named Assistant Director/Chief Revenue Officer and Jay DeWitt was appointed Assistant Director/Chief Development Officer for the City of Phoenix Aviation Department (source, source). These appointments brought decades of management experience and oversight across planning, environmental services, design, construction services, and financial management within the department.
