Phoenix Sky Harbor is recognizing its volunteer Navigators with a Volunteer Appreciation Week from May 1-7. These volunteers contribute significantly to the airport, known as “America’s Friendliest Airport,” by providing assistance to passengers and maintaining a collegial atmosphere. The festivities will include Kentucky Derby-themed events, decorated counters, flight information displays turning purple, and VIPs shadowing Navigators.
Additionally, the Teen Navigator Volunteer Program will have an open house on May 13, 2025, at the Aviation Department for high school students, aged 14 and over. This program offers students a chance to work with experienced Navigators over the summer.
The Navigator program, now in its 25th year, started in November 2000 and involves volunteers offering directions and information, assisting with tours and community outreach, and providing support. Over the years, more than 1,600 volunteers have contributed approximately 1.6 million hours. This year, 357 volunteers have already devoted 18,220 hours.
Other volunteer initiatives at Phoenix Sky Harbor include the Navigator Buddies, a therapy dog program aimed at reducing traveler stress, and Navigator Chaplains providing spiritual guidance.
