Phoenix Public Library announced on May 6 that its annual Summer Reading Program, called the Summer Reading Game, will begin on June 1 and run through July 20. This year’s theme is “Unearth a Story,” which encourages readers of all ages to explore books, discover new adventures, and engage with storytelling.

The program aims to keep community members active and engaged during the summer months while helping them build strong reading habits. The library said participation is free and open to everyone, offering an opportunity for residents to stay entertained indoors as temperatures rise.

Registration for the Summer Reading Game opens on May 1 at MaricopaCountyReads.org or at any Phoenix Public Library location. After signing up, participants can choose from different gameboards and start reading for at least 20 minutes each day or complete literacy activities to earn points. Progress is tracked online with the goal of reaching 1,000 points by July 20 in order to receive a free book and other rewards.

Alongside reading activities, participants can unlock digital badges, complete online challenges, attend free library events, and take part in community experiences related to this year’s theme. The library provides additional information and instructional videos at PhoenixPublicLibrary.org for those interested in joining or learning more about how the program works.

The initiative highlights Phoenix Public Library’s ongoing commitment to promoting literacy and providing educational opportunities throughout the summer.
