On January 26, 2026, the Phoenix Police Department responded to an active shooting incident near 7500 West Lower Buckeye Road. Multiple emergency calls were made reporting a man shooting at a house. According to the police, dispatchers could hear gunfire during these calls and relayed this information to officers en route.

One caller said, “somebody shot one of my kids.” Another woman told dispatch that someone was shooting her children. A man on the call stated there were kids at the location and added, “they are pointing the gun at my dad.”

Upon arrival, officers were directed by community members toward a nearby home where it was reported that children were inside and someone was firing shots. The first officer on scene approached the open front door and observed a struggle inside. He ordered those involved to show their hands, but neither fully complied. At that point, an officer-involved shooting occurred.

After entering the home, officers found two men with gunshot wounds. One was taken to the hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening. Another man was pronounced dead at the scene. A third individual was detained and transported to the hospital for non-gunshot-related injuries.

According to police statements, “Based on what we now know, the man that was fatally shot had disarmed the individual who had fired shots at the home and other family members.” The statement continued: “He was not the subject of the original call.”

The officer involved is assigned to the Maryvale Estrella Mountain Precinct and has about five years of service with the Phoenix Police Department.

A criminal investigation into this incident is being led by the Major Incident Division of the Department of Public Safety. The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office will review findings once completed. The department stated that conclusions about whether officers’ actions aligned with policy or law will be determined after all facts are reviewed and investigations are finalized.
