In the 2022-23 school year, 82% of Phoenix Elementary District students failed their AASA Math test, according to the Arizona Department of Education.

The 3,317 students who took the AASA test were assessed at four proficiency levels in each subject. Those at levels one and two failed the test, while students who reached the third and fourth proficiency levels passed the test.

Phoenix Elementary District roughly covers schools within Maricopa County County and has a main office in Phoenix.

In 2022 Arizona had roughly one teacher for every 19 students, compared to the national average of one teacher for 16 students. Teachers handling a higher number of students was found to have negative consequences for students’ school performance.

In 2022, average scores from Arizona students were found to be inline with the national average scores for math and reading, according to the Nation’s Report Card.
