Phoenix Children’s announced on March 24 a strategic realignment that brings Phoenix Children’s Pediatrics, its network of primary care offices, under the umbrella of Phoenix Children’s Medical Group. The move creates a single leadership structure for both primary and specialty pediatric care.

The integration aims to improve coordination between pediatricians and specialists, which could lead to better outcomes for patients. The health system said this change is part of its commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centered care across the communities it serves.

Ashish Patel, MD, Physician-in-Chief at Phoenix Children’s, said: “Aligning Phoenix Children’s Pediatrics within Phoenix Children’s Medical Group allows our primary care and specialty teams to work even closer together, supporting better outcomes and a more integrated experience for the patients we serve.”

As part of the transition, Darcey Winterland, MD has been appointed Division Chief of Phoenix Children’s Pediatrics. Dr. Winterland said: “I am honored to step into this role and continue supporting our pediatricians and care teams. Becoming a division within Phoenix Children’s Medical Group reinforces our shared mission and fosters collaboration and continued growth as we meet the evolving needs of children and families.”

Dr. Winterland has more than 20 years of experience in pediatric medicine. She completed her residency at Phoenix Children’s after graduating from the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson.
