Paradise Valley Unified School District announced on April 13 that elementary and high school students received top awards at the Arizona Science and Engineering Fair.

The recognition highlights the achievements of local students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. Their success reflects ongoing efforts to provide quality instruction and dynamic learning experiences in the district.

At the elementary level, students from Grayhawk Elementary, Sonoran Sky Elementary, and Desert Shadows Elementary competed in categories such as cellular biology, chemistry, computer science, physics, and plant sciences. Projects included studying microplastics in plant cells, creating artificial intelligence tools for recycling systems improvement, and testing materials for insulation effectiveness. At Paradise Valley High School’s CREST program, students earned first place in Biochemistry for research on cardiac tissue growth factor recovery. Another team received first place and the DRIPBL Innovation Award in Systems Software with a project aimed at improving imaging safety using neural networks.

Additional honors went to high school participants who placed second in chemistry as well as third-place finishes across categories like cellular biology, embedded systems, and engineering. One student team qualified for the International Science and Engineering Fair after winning first place with a project on data-driven strategies to enhance music practice.

Judges commended PVSchools students for their scientific inquiry skills and ability to communicate complex ideas clearly. These accomplishments underscore the district’s commitment to authentic research experiences through its STEM pathways.
