The Paradise Valley Unified School District Governing Board has held four executive sessions since late September to address personnel issues related to the superintendent position. These meetings have been confidential, as required by Arizona law, which limits the information that can be shared with the public.
According to a district statement, the Governing Board is continuing to follow legal procedures with the intention of resolving the matter in a timely manner. The board and district have stated their commitment to providing updates once the process concludes.
On December 2, 2025, the Governing Board voted unanimously to issue a Statement of Charges for terminating Superintendent C. Todd Cummings’ employment. Arizona Revised Statutes allow Dr. Cummings ten days to request a hearing on these charges, and he has made such a request within that timeframe. The hearing is scheduled for this month. Afterward, a hearing officer will present a recommended decision to the Governing Board for final action. The district indicated that further details would be released after the hearing concludes.
In the interim, operations at PVSchools have continued without interruption. On September 30, 2025, Dr. Dan Courson, then assistant superintendent of Secondary Leadership, was appointed as acting superintendent by the board. Since his appointment, Dr. Courson and other district leaders have worked to maintain normalcy for students and staff.
“I am honored to contribute to this amazing district as the acting superintendent and will remain committed to this role as long as needed. We have a truly special district, and its success relies on our community coming together in times of both celebration and challenge. Thank you for your support of student success in Paradise.” Dr. Dan Courson, acting superintendent
