The Arizona Cardinals are beginning a new chapter under head coach Mike LaFleur, but the future of quarterback Kyler Murray remains uncertain. LaFleur addressed the topic ahead of his coordinators’ introductory press conferences, indicating that no decision has been made about Murray’s role with the team.
“Just like everything else on the roster, open conversations in this building,” LaFleur said. “No timeframe on that.”
LaFleur is expected to discuss the subject further at the upcoming NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, where he will speak to national media next week.
During Wednesday’s press conference, LaFleur focused primarily on his new coordinators but touched briefly on other matters. Reflecting on the challenges of assembling his coaching staff after being hired later in the offseason, he said: “There are so many good coaches out there. You lose one, but sometimes when you lose one, man, it might be the best thing that could ever happen because you end up finding the next one who is a better fit for us. You learn some things you might otherwise not have learned. There are challeges but I can flip it and say it’s actually a good thing too.” He added that they are “close” to completing their coaching staff.
LaFleur also commented on how he plans to structure operations within the organization: “Organically we are going to be evolving. This is a different setup than the Rams. … I have a good idea to how I want this thing to flow but don’t hold me to an exact minute yet.”
The Arizona Cardinals play their home games in Glendale and serve the greater Phoenix area as part of the NFC West division according to their official website. The franchise is recognized as the oldest continuously operating professional football team in the United States and captured an NFC championship in 2008 according to their official website.
