Michael Bidwill, the owner of the Arizona Cardinals, was honored at the Sedona Forum as the 2025 recipient of the “In The Arena” award, a recognition created by the McCain Institute to spotlight individuals who exemplify leadership and action. Jack McCain, the son of the late Senator John McCain, described Bidwill as a “pillar today in the city of Phoenix, the state of Arizona, and in the country,” highlighting his support for veterans and communities affected by fires in Los Angeles.

During the event, Bidwill’s achievements extended beyond his role in the NFL. His previous work as a prosecutor and his contributions to Civics Matters, a program dedicated to educating students about community improvement, were acknowledged. McCain emphasized Bidwill’s character, stating, “Everything that he does is treated with dignity. Frankly, we are lucky to be giving him the In The Arena award.”

Bidwill expressed his gratitude after receiving the award, stating, “It’s truly the highest honor I have ever received because John McCain was so important to so many people.” He attributed the honor to a collective effort, saying, “It’s something important to me, important to my family, and our organization.”

In 2023, Cardinals player Kelvin Beachum received the same accolade for his community work. Bidwill and Beachum have developed a strong partnership, working together on local community outreach efforts. Beachum commented on Bidwill’s impact, “He has heart for the people and heart for humanity.”

The award came with personal significance for Bidwill, who remembered a poignant conversation with the McCain family before Senator McCain’s passing. Jack McCain noted his father’s fondness for Bidwill, saying, “He’d be overjoyed… And then he would go back to yelling at him about his football team.”
