The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors is set to finalize its FY 2026 budget during a public hearing on June 23. The tentative budget, adopted on May 19, amounts to $3.955 billion. This board also oversees the Flood Control, Library, and Stadium districts.
Maricopa County typically receives 11 cents from every dollar paid in property taxes. For FY 2026, the county’s tax levy is $269.5 million below the maximum allowed by state law, indicating that the county collects less in taxes than it potentially could.
Before the final vote on the budget, there will be an opportunity for public comment on the proposed FY 2026 budget, which includes a reduction in the overall tax rate. Although property values are not controlled by the Board, increases in these values can lead to higher tax levies for existing property owners. Consequently, some property owners might experience a slight tax increase due to positive market adjustments.
A “Truth in Taxation” hearing is legally required and allows taxpayers to express their views on proposed levies:
– A primary property tax increase of $12,233,134 or 1.81%, which would raise primary property taxes on a $100,000 home from $113.85 to $115.91.
– No secondary property tax increase for either the Flood Control District or Library District.
Citizens interested in voicing their opinions can attend the public hearing scheduled for June 23 at 9:30 a.m., held at the Board of Supervisors’ Conference Room located at 301 W. Jefferson, Phoenix, Arizona.
The notice regarding this meeting will be published in the Arizona Business Gazette on June 5 and June 12.
In line with state law requirements, another meeting will take place on August 18 where the Board of Supervisors will vote on the final tax levy proposal.
