Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell announced on May 21 that Connor Burgess was sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to three counts of Organized Retail Theft, a Class Four Felony.
The case highlights the impact of organized retail theft on local businesses and families. Authorities said Burgess’s actions resulted in more than $26,000 in losses for sporting goods retailers across the valley between October and November 2025.
According to investigators, one incident involved Burgess stealing seven golf clubs valued at over $4,200 from a Dick’s Sporting Goods store. He was later linked to six additional thefts at multiple PGA TOUR Superstores, another Dick’s Sporting Goods location, and a Scheels store. Surveillance video captured the crimes, and investigators identified Burgess through online listings where he attempted to sell the stolen items.
“Organized retail theft is not a harmless crime. It drives up costs for families and puts businesses and employees at risk,” said County Attorney Rachel Mitchell. “If you come to Maricopa County to steal and profit off our retailers, you will be identified, prosecuted, and held accountable.”
The sentence reflects ongoing efforts by law enforcement officials in Maricopa County to address organized retail crime.
