Maricopa County has introduced a new on-site childcare facility for its employees, aimed at providing support to families with children aged six weeks to five years. The 12,000-square-foot Kids Club is located at 441 W. Madison St., near the county administration building in downtown Phoenix. The facility will be managed by KinderCare, a prominent provider of early childhood education.
Thomas Galvin, Chairman of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors for District 2, emphasized the county’s dedication to supporting its workforce through initiatives like the Kids Club. “This unique resource is just one of the many benefits the county offers to attract and retain a qualified workforce in the long term,” Galvin stated. He expressed pride in offering parents peace of mind regarding their children’s care while they work.
The Kids Club is designed as a safe and supportive learning environment for children of county employees. Currently operating daily with extended hours, there are plans to potentially expand to 24-hour service based on demand from workers on second and third shifts.
County Manager Jen Pokorski highlighted the importance of reliable childcare in employment decisions, particularly for women. “Finding reliable and affordable childcare remains one of the biggest barriers to employment, particularly for women,” she said. The facility aims to help families balance work and family responsibilities more effectively.
The design of the facility incorporates calming colors and natural lighting to promote safety and security while creating a welcoming atmosphere. Classrooms are tailored to specific age groups, from infants to preschoolers, with ample space provided both indoors and outdoors for active play.
Dan Figurski, President of KinderCare for Employers and Champions, expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Maricopa County on this initiative. “Access to high-quality childcare is a necessity for working families,” he noted. “Maricopa County Kids Club will not only provide local children with a wonderful place to learn and grow but it will also be a highly supportive benefit for county employees.”
In addition to discounted childcare services, Maricopa County offers an extensive benefits package that includes health care plans with low premiums, paid leave options, retirement savings plans, pet benefits, ID theft protection, supplemental health insurance options, life insurance policies, and free public transit access.
KinderCare operates over 2,000 early learning centers across 40 states including Washington D.C., offering flexible childcare solutions suited for today’s dynamic work environments.
