Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman spoke on Apr. 29 about former running back Jeremiyah Love, now a first-round draft pick for the Arizona Cardinals, during an episode of the Cardinals Cover 2 podcast. Freeman addressed Love’s ambitions, including his stated goal of reaching the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Freeman said that while achieving such a milestone will require significant effort from Love, he is not surprised by the running back’s confidence or aspirations. “He has the ability and the skillset and want-to to make that come to fruition,” Freeman said.
Love is recognized for his rushing skills, but Freeman highlighted improvements in other areas as well. He noted that Love has made considerable progress in pass protection and even served as a lead blocker at times. “He’s a powerful, powerful human being,” Freeman said. In addition to his work out of the backfield, Love spent much of spring 2025 practicing at wide receiver to further develop his receiving abilities. “I truly believe if he wanted to play full time wideout he would be really successful in the NFL at doing that,” Freeman said. “That’s how natural and good he is at it.”
Freeman also discussed Devin Fitzgerald, son of Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald and current Notre Dame player who graduated early from Phoenix Brophy Prep to join spring practice with Notre Dame this year. “He’s already made quite an impact,” Freeman said about Devin Fitzgerald’s performance so far.
