Paradise Valley Community College (PVCC) is celebrating its graduating Honors students by highlighting their inspiring stories. Among them is Kim Rivas, a business student whose experience in the Honors Program has been transformative.

Rivas describes her initial feelings of intimidation upon joining the program. “Everyone seemed so prepared, so smart, and I wasn’t sure if I belonged,” she shared. However, she soon realized that the program was not about perfection but rather about growth and connection. “It’s about growth, curiosity, and connection,” she explained.

Throughout her studies in Business at PVCC, Rivas engaged in coursework and collaborative projects while benefiting from a supportive network of peers and mentors. “I’ve been pushed to think critically, reflect deeply, and take ownership of my learning,” she said.

Rivas encourages other students to consider joining the Honors Program. “Do it! You won’t regret it,” she advises. She highlights the community aspect of the program where students feel genuinely supported. “You’ll discover strengths you didn’t know you had,” Rivas noted.

Looking forward, Rivas plans to continue her education at PVCC by enrolling in the new Bachelor’s in Accounting program. She feels well-prepared for this next step thanks to her experiences in the Honors Program. “It didn’t just sharpen my academic skills,” she said. “It taught me how to think critically, communicate confidently, and lead with empathy.”
