Arizona State Representative Justin Wilmeth, a Republican elected in 2022 to represent the state’s 2nd House District, posted a series of comments on social media reflecting on generational dynamics in U.S. presidential politics.
On May 24, 2026, Wilmeth commented on the Indianapolis 500 by posting “Wow #indy500”.
The following day, Wilmeth addressed issues related to Generation X and their representation in presidential elections. In a tweet dated May 25, 2026, he wrote, “At this point, it’s “Marco or Bust” for us Xers. The joke our entire lives is that the generation is overlooked – and that might just happen in the presidential area. Wild.”
Later that same day, Wilmeth provided additional context about generational trends among recent presidential candidates. He stated, “The stats come from the post below. I filled in the election years and nominees. Un-fun facts: — The last NINE presidential elections have featured at least one Boomer nominee — Five of the past six presidential elections have been Boomer vs. Boomer Wow. 2028 should be”
Generation X has often been described as an overlooked cohort in American society and politics, with Baby Boomers dominating leadership roles for several decades. As noted by Wilmeth’s remarks, no member of Generation X has yet secured a major party nomination for president despite being eligible for more than two decades.
Wilmeth succeeded Daniel Hernández Jr., becoming state representative for Arizona’s 2nd House District after his election in November 2022.
