Jacoby Brissett, who joined the Arizona Cardinals as Kyler Murray’s backup before the season, reflected on his experience stepping into the starting quarterback role after Murray suffered a foot injury. Brissett admitted earlier in the year that he had not expected to be in this position again.

As the Cardinals prepare for their final game of the season, Brissett is set to make his 12th consecutive start. During this stretch, he has achieved personal bests with 21 touchdown passes and 3,123 passing yards. However, the team has managed only one win during his time as starter.

“It’s been tough,” Brissett said. “I was talking to (offensive coordinator) Drew (Petzing) about this the other day, but I would much rather this than the alternative of not playing. Getting a chance to just go out there and compete, play a kid’s game that I grew up playing since I was 5.

“I’ve been a part of things where I was playing, was not playing, didn’t know when my next opportunity was going to come. To finally get an opportunity, like I said, obviously things haven’t gone our way this year, but again, I’ll take this over the alternative.”

The future at quarterback for Arizona remains uncertain heading into next season. Murray is still on Injured Reserve and has not spoken publicly since his injury in Week 5 against Tennessee. His status will likely draw attention both locally and nationally in the coming weeks. Brissett remains under contract through next season as well.

Brissett declined to discuss next year’s prospects while there is still one game left on the schedule but did express interest in continuing as a starter: “Would I like another opportunity?” Brissett said. “Hell yeah.”
