The Paradise Valley Unified School District announced on May 11 that the Horizon High School DECA Community Service Team was recognized for its efforts at the International Career Development Conference.
The recognition highlights the importance of student involvement in addressing community needs and supporting local organizations. The district said it is proud of students who take initiative to help others.
Team members Lainey Moskowitz and Rhea Kapur worked with St. Vincent de Paul on a project focused on collecting food donations. Their efforts resulted in collecting over a thousand pounds of non-perishable food, earning them an invitation to join St. Vincent’s 1000-Pound Club. The club recognizes those who “are doing their part to offer hope, dignity and support to those in need.” PVSchools and Horizon High School said they are proud of Moskowitz and Kapur “for their hard work and making this project come to life.” The district also encouraged anyone facing food insecurity to contact one of The Society of St. Vincent de Paul locations.
Paradise Valley Unified School District promotes anti-racism, equity, and inclusion in its policies and practices, operates under the guidance of a board of school trustees, focuses on engaging students through quality instruction, offers community learning centers and magnet programs, serves the Paradise Valley area in Arizona, and specializes in public schooling according to the official website.
As more students participate in projects like these, school officials say such initiatives may continue supporting both local families facing challenges as well as broader educational goals.
