Grand Canyon University (GCU) participated in the 2025 WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships held in Arlington, Texas. Over three days, GCU athletes achieved notable podium finishes, set regional qualifying marks, and broke several school records. The men’s team secured second place while the women’s team finished fourth overall. Utah Valley claimed both team titles.
The event commenced with strong performances from GCU’s women’s pole vault and javelin squads. Regan Parnell, Kennedy Benjamins, and Madison Gawthorp collectively earned 10 points in the pole vault. Lucy George and Camdyn Bruner contributed nine points in the javelin. Hana Hall added a point in the 10,000 meters.
On the men’s side, Andrew Wells and Ryan Norton placed fifth and sixth in the hammer throw. The decathlon trio of Casey Tow, Blayk Kelton, and Justice Fair were positioned to score.
In track events, Miguel Rosario III and Nina Thevenin advanced to finals in the 200m race. Daviciea McCartney and Cam Wilmington posted top qualifying times for the 400m hurdles.
Friday saw George defend her WAC title in shot put with a throw of 14.94m. Bruner finished as runner-up in heptathlon with a total of 5,151 points. Tow set a new school record in decathlon with 7,561 points for second place.
Francisco Marques broke the WAC Championships meet record during prelims of the 110m hurdles with a time of 13.57 seconds.
Saturday’s finale featured five event wins for GCU athletes. Jazmine Scott won the women’s triple jump with a mark of 12.70m to qualify for NCAA West First Round.
Prosper Ekporere led a successful performance in men’s 110m hurdles by breaking GCU’s record with a time of 13.66 seconds.
Matthew Kaitschuck won men’s javelin at 60.88m followed by Tow at second place.
Taliyah Booker took second place in women’s 400m while Michaela Lewis secured silver in women’s 800m.
Despite weather delays affecting schedules, GCU’s women’s relay team won their event with Rifort-Delem anchoring alongside Blockburger, Lewis, and Booker running a time of 3:40.41.
Rosario concluded his weekend by finishing second in men’s 200m at a time of 20.67 seconds—second best historically for GCU.
Additional top-three finishes included Germain Lemaitre placing third in men’s 800m; Harrison Cornell taking third place finish on men’s discus; Praise Jibunor securing third on high jump; Misael Colon finishing second on pole vault competition.
Overall results demonstrated GCU’s competitive depth across multiple disciplines as they now prepare for NCAA West First Round starting May28th at College Station Texas.
