Grand Canyon University athletes achieved several event victories across sprints, distance, and jumps at the Glendale Invite on April 11 in Glendale, Arizona.

On the women’s side, junior Suraia Amer recorded a time of 24.88 seconds in the 200-meter dash. Graduate Amanda Thrue (25.04) and freshman Adi Hunt (25.22) followed closely behind. Senior Maria Sartin placed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.59, while a sophomore won the women’s 800 meters with a finish of 2:18.71. Freshman Isabella Velazquez secured first place in the women’s 1500 meters with a time of 4:47.76.
For men’s track events, sophomore Luca Cannizzo took first place in the men’s 400 meters at 48.29 seconds, with senior Jarron Stevens finishing second at 48.81 seconds as he continues to recover from an injury sustained during previous championships. Junior Tristen Coyle finished first in the men’s 800 meters with a time of 1:51.51, and sophomore Alex Saldamando was runner-up in the men’s 1500 meters at just under four minutes.
In field events, junior Praise Jibunor won both men’s high jump (2.07m) and long jump (7.42m). Sophomore Jezelle Santiago cleared 1.58m for top honors in women’s high jump; freshman Genevieve Tebeau led women’s long jump at 5.70m; junior Chloe Metz claimed victory in women’s pole vault by clearing a height of 3.81m; sophomores Madyson Goodman and Lilly Cook placed second and third respectively in women’s triple jump.
Throwing performances included freshman Juliana Garcia taking third place for women’s hammer throw at over forty-seven meters and fourth place for javelin throw; sophomore Harrison Cornell led men’s discus competitors by placing third with a mark just above forty-seven meters.
The Grand Canyon Antelopes participate as an intercollegiate athletics program based at Grand Canyon University according to their official website.
