The Grand Canyon Antelopes track and field teams set several school records at the Carvel Jackson Memorial Showcase, according to a Mar. 30 announcement. Senior athletes Germain Lemaitre and Maria Sartin each broke individual school records, while both men’s and women’s relay squads also delivered record-breaking performances.
The achievements highlight the ongoing development of the Grand Canyon Antelopes’ intercollegiate athletics program, which competes in NCAA Division I events according to the official website. The event saw Sartin win the women’s 400 meter hurdles with a new school record time of 59.63 seconds after her recent victory at the New Zealand National Championships. Lemaitre finished first in the men’s 800 meters with a time of 1:47, setting another school best.
Relay teams from Grand Canyon University also had strong results. The men’s senior squad—Justin Raines, Jacob Holguin, Miguel Rosario, and Conner Kittleson—won their race in the 4×100 meter relay with a record-setting time of 39.09 seconds. This performance currently ranks them third in the West Region and fifth nationally within NCAA competition.
On the women’s side, graduate Atena Rayson joined seniors Hannah Smith along with sophomores Cassie Small and Nina Thevenin to win their own 4×100 meter relay in a time of 44.18 seconds, breaking a thirteen-year-old program record.
Other notable finishes included senior Taliyah Booker winning the women’s 400 meters (53.52), senior Tarynn Burkett taking first place in triple jump (39 feet, four inches), and junior Tristen Coyle finishing first in men’s 1500 meters (3:47.36).
The Grand Canyon Antelopes participate as part of NCAA Division I’s Western Athletic Conference according to their official website.
