FOIA Request to Paradise Valley Community College Regarding Chinese National Students on June 3, 2025.
We, at PHX Reporter, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Paradise Valley Community College. Our request seeks detailed information concerning Chinese National students enrolled at the institution.
The request specifically asks for documents or lists showing all current students who are Chinese Nationals and their respective departments of study. If such details are protected, we have requested the total number of these students along with a departmental breakdown. Additionally, we seek information about scholarships awarded to these students, including the amount and source of each scholarship. Furthermore, we are interested in identifying recipients of scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council.
Moreover, our inquiry extends to understanding the policies or procedures that the university employs to monitor students, including Chinese Nationals, in order to protect its Intellectual Property and other confidential information.
This request is made on behalf of The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy—a non-profit organization that aids media companies and public advocacy groups in investigating governmental agencies through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws. As members of the media committed to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe this information is crucial for informing the public accurately. We have also requested a fee waiver given our role in disseminating news as media professionals.
