FOIA Request to Gateway Community College Regarding Chinese National Students on June 3, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in local governmental affairs, we at PHX Reporter have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Gateway Community College. This request seeks detailed information concerning Chinese National students currently enrolled at the institution.
The request specifically asks for documents or lists showing all current students who are Chinese Nationals, including their department of study. If certain details are protected, we have requested a total count of these students broken down by department. Additionally, we seek information about scholarships awarded to these students, including the amount and source of each scholarship. Particular attention is given to any scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council.
Furthermore, we have requested any policies or procedures that describe how the university monitors its students, including Chinese Nationals, to safeguard its Intellectual Property and other confidential information.
This request is made in collaboration with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting transparency in government actions. As members of the media, our role is crucial in holding public institutions accountable and ensuring that public records remain accessible for the benefit of society.
We believe this information will contribute significantly to public understanding and discourse regarding international student policies and practices within educational institutions.
