Whispering Wind Academy fifth-grade student Samantha Anderson received an Honorable Mention at the 5th National Mandarin Chinese Speech Contest, according to an April 27 announcement. The contest’s final round took place virtually on Saturday, April 18, and included over 700 submissions from students in grades three through university level across 33 states.
Anderson was one of only thirteen finalists nationwide in the Elementary Grade 3–5 division. She was also the only student representing Arizona and the only public school student among the finalists, competing alongside students from private and charter schools.
Her achievement brings attention to Whispering Wind Academy’s Mandarin immersion program.
