Two teenagers, Brianna Bañuelos and Julio Rodriguez, have been named the 2026 Prom King and Queen for Banner Children’s Diamond Children’s in Tucson. The announcement took place during the Arizona men’s basketball game on February 28 at McKale Center at Alkeme Arena.
Brianna and Julio will participate in the Dunkin’ Prom night scheduled for April 11. This annual event is organized for teen patients who are unable to attend their school prom due to serious illness. It provides an opportunity for them to dress up, dance, and spend time with friends.
The prom is supported by the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation and aims to offer teen patients a traditional high school experience. This year’s event will feature a virtual trip around the world and will be held at Casino Del Sol Stadium (Arizona Stadium).
Brianna was diagnosed with leukemia shortly after her 14th birthday, causing her to miss her freshman year of high school while undergoing treatment. She continues to approach each day with resilience and positivity.
Julio, also 14 years old, is currently receiving treatment for neuroblastoma. He pursues his education online, excels in math, and follows the motto “striking out cancer.”
