Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari has used her social media platform to raise concerns about the ongoing government shutdown, oversight of detention centers, and actions by House leadership. In a series of posts on November 6, 2025, Ansari detailed her experiences and criticisms regarding current federal operations.

On November 6, Ansari posted: “We’re in Day 36 of the government shutdown and ICE has said they are not taking visits from Members of Congress. Oversight of American taxpayer-funded detention centers is a core part of our job—especially as the Trump admin has wiped out accountability mechanisms and is pumping”.

Later that day, she shared details from a visit to an Arizona facility: “I spent two hours with Yari yesterday after being let in to the Eloy Detention Center in Arizona. She’s extremely sick. She told me she vomits blood several times a week—and I witnessed it myself this time. Watching her suffer like that, without answers or a plan, is unbearable”.

In another post on November 6, Ansari criticized House Speaker Mike Johnson: “I’m here outside @SpeakerJohnson’s office because he is starving families and gutting health care to cover up the Epstein Files. Change my mind.”

Yassamin Ansari was elected to Congress in 2024 after defeating Jeff Zink in the general election with over 70% of the vote.

The issues raised by Ansari reflect ongoing debates about congressional oversight during periods when access to federal facilities is restricted and highlight concerns over detainee welfare at immigration centers. Her remarks also underscore broader partisan disputes regarding government funding priorities and transparency within federal institutions.
