Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari, who won her seat in 2024 by defeating Jeff Zink with 70.9% of the vote, posted a series of statements on January 7, 2026, addressing issues ranging from U.S. foreign policy to domestic law enforcement and political discourse.

In her first post, Ansari commented on recent developments regarding Venezuela: “Just stepped out of Venezuela briefing. Trump’s “plan” is disturbing: take Venezuela’s oil by force & and hold it over them indefinitely. It’s nation building for Big Oil. It’s a dangerous fantasy that will make oil execs richer while making Americans and the world less safe.” (January 7, 2026)

Later the same day, she addressed an incident involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE): “ICE just killed a U.S. citizen—allegedly blocking her from medical care and letting her die. This is horrifying. ICE is a rogue agency incapable of reform. Minneapolis Mayor Frey is calling for ICE to vacate the city and I echo that call.” (January 7, 2026)

In a subsequent post, Ansari criticized Minnesota GOP Representative Robbins: “Spreading conspiracy theories about the murder of Melissa Hortman is beyond the pale. By echoing Trump, Minnesota GOP Rep. @RepRobbins has disqualified herself from holding office. She should end her campaign for governor—now.” (January 7, 2026)

Ansari was elected to Congress in 2024 after winning against Jeff Zink with nearly three-quarters of the vote.
