Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari has issued a series of statements on social media following the killing of an American citizen by federal agents in Minnesota, expressing criticism of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Trump administration.
In a post dated January 7, 2026, Ansari wrote, “An American citizen was murdered by federal agents today. @StephenM, on behalf of Trump, is running and defending a rogue authoritarian regime. This is tyranny. ICE out of our cities now.”
Later that day, she referenced ongoing congressional actions related to the incident: “We’re in an Oversight Committee hearing & @RepPressley motioned to ‘subpoena @DHSgov and @ICEgov for all documents, communications, videos, and other materials related to the murder of a woman by federal agents in Minneapolis, Minnesota.’ Not a single Republican voted for it.” This statement was posted on January 7, 2026.
On January 8, 2026, Ansari added further commentary: “An ICE agent murdered a 37-year-old American woman in Minnesota today. This is what an unchecked paramilitary force looks like. I’m enraged, and I will never back down from holding the Trump regime and ICE accountable. Here are my thoughts.”
Yassamin Ansari was elected to Congress in 2024 after defeating Jeff Zink with over 70 percent of the vote.
The comments come amid heightened tensions regarding federal immigration enforcement actions and their oversight. The refusal by Republican members to support subpoenas for investigative materials highlights ongoing partisan divisions within Congress regarding accountability for federal agencies.
