Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari has recently used her social media platform to address issues ranging from domestic legal disputes involving military leadership to international human rights concerns in Iran.

On January 12, 2026, Ansari expressed support for Senator Mark Kelly’s legal action against Pete Hegseth, writing, “I strongly support my friend and fellow Arizonan @SenMarkKelly in filing a lawsuit against @PeteHegseth. Our @SecWar shouldn’t be threatening our longest-serving military veterans with censure or demotion because they said something that he doesn’t like. That’s truly un-American.”

The following day, on January 13, 2026, Ansari turned her attention to events in Iran. She posted, “As the Islamic Republic commits mass atrocities against the Iranian people, it is cutting internet access and phone lines to hide its crimes. The U.S. must act now to assess direct-to-cell connectivity and deploy 2025 NDAA-authorized funding to expand internet freedom in Iran.”

Later that same day, she reiterated her stance on supporting the Iranian people: “Millions across Iran are bravely rising up to demand an end to the barbaric Islamic Republic regime. With a unified, bipartisan voice, I’m leading Congress in condemning the regime’s brutality and standing with the Iranian people in their fight for freedom and democracy.”

Ansari’s statements come amid ongoing unrest in Iran and increased scrutiny of government actions limiting communication within the country. The United States has previously discussed measures such as direct-to-cell connectivity and funding initiatives aimed at promoting internet freedom abroad.

In addition to her recent public statements, Yassamin Ansari secured her congressional seat by defeating Jeff Zink in the 2024 general election with a significant margin—winning approximately 70.9% of the vote compared to Zink’s 26.6%.
