Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari has recently addressed a range of issues in a series of social media posts, including conditions at for-profit detention centers, the plight of detainees needing medical care, and support for seniors in her community.
On April 18, 2026, Ansari described her observations regarding detention facilities: “Enraging. The conditions inside these for-profit detention centers are abysmal. I’ve seen it for myself.
My Stop Inhumane Conditions in ICE Detention Act will force accountability and transparency in a system that currently has no oversight. Congress must pass this bill.”
Later that day, she highlighted an individual case from the Eloy Detention Center by quoting Sonia Almaraz: ‘”Only a few words. That would be saving her life.”
Sonia Almaraz on what it would mean for her partner Yari, who has been wrongfully detained in Eloy Detention Center for over a year, to receive the specialized medical care that she deserves for her leukemia.’
On April 19, 2026, Ansari shared details about her engagement with local advocacy groups: “Productive meeting with @AARPArizona about how we can better serve seniors in our community.
In particular, I’m looking forward to working alongside them to pass legislation that will help seniors and caregivers improve the quality of their lives.”
Yassamin Ansari was elected to Congress in 2024 after defeating Jeff Zink by a significant margin—receiving approximately 71% of the vote compared to Zink’s roughly 27%.
