The Arizona Cardinals welcomed rookie quarterback Carson Beck to their roster as players arrived for rookie minicamp, according to a May 7 announcement. Beck, who was selected in the third round of April’s draft, joins a quarterback room that includes Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew II.
Beck’s arrival is significant for the team as they look to evaluate talent and build depth at the quarterback position. The Cardinals have not named a starting quarterback, and competition is expected among Brissett, Minshew, and Beck.
General manager Monti Ossenfort said on SiriusXM NFL radio, “We have two guys who have played and started a lot of games in the NFL in Jacoby and Gardner and that’s going to be a great competition. We’ll bring (Carson) in and see how much he can handle and we’ll see how that competition plays out in the room. In the end the guy who is going to give us the best chance to win, that’s who is going to be out there on Sundays.”
Beck addressed his approach during media availability: “Even if I were to be the guy at some point, you are constantly learning, through game experience, through past experience, meetings, just talking to guys around the facility, you’re trying to get breadcrumbs from each and every person.” He added about criticism or praise he receives: “It’s all poison,” emphasizing his focus on development.
After recovering from an elbow injury suffered during his college career at Georgia before transferring to Miami for his final season—where he led his team into a national championship game—Beck said he feels healthy again: “Now, a year-and-a-half after surgery, his arm is as strong as it’s ever been.” He also stated about applying lessons learned: “Experience is nothing if there is no application from the lessons that you’ve learned from the experiences.”
The Arizona Cardinals play home games in Glendale and serve fans across greater Phoenix as part of the National Football League’s NFC West division; they are recognized as one of football’s oldest franchises according to their official website.
Looking ahead, Beck will continue working with coaches during offseason programs while competing for playing time with veterans.
